Lately, “criticism” has been used primarily in a negative sense because the way it’s used by people. Nothing seems to gradually erode relationships (sometimes causing irreversible damage) than criticizing people around us negatively. The goal of constructive criticism, as it is sometimes called, should be to correct people’s mistakes – but not to bring them down. What good is criticizing someone when the recipient of the critical feedback ends up having negative feelings about the one providing the feedback? What good is criticism when the mistake or behavior is never corrected due to the ill feelings that one develops about the person showering that criticism? What good is criticism when the person being criticized pulls away from the person providing it? The foll...

Importance of Friday Sermon (Khutbah) in Islam

Image
By: Nurudeen Ismail, +234-907-615-8003 Salah is the 2 nd  pillar of Islam which is obligatory on every Muslim five times a day. Friday (Jummah) prayer has greater status in the life of Muslims. Friday prayer has a different format in terms of number of Rakats. The distinction of Salah on this day is evident from the fact that there is a separate  Surah  “ Al-Jumu`ah”  in the Holy Quran, in which Allah Almighty has mentioned about strictly maintaining it.  “O you, who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu’ah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave the trade. That is better for you if you only knew.”  (Quran, 62: 9) The Friday Sermon (Khutbah) is conducted before every Friday prayer as per Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is mandatory for Muslims to hear. Image
By: Admin (+2347082120351) Weakness of faith (eeman) is a common complaint among many Muslims. Those who are aware and conscious of it struggle to find ways to overcome it. Faith, as we know, is directly connected with the heart. Allah (SWT) has warned us against the heart that is hardened, closed, sick, blind and sealed. The spiritual health of our hearts determines the strength of our faith. When our faith is weak, we can see it in our actions. When our faith is weak, we are more likely to fall into sins until we completely get desensitized to their ghastly nature. The Messenger of Allah (SAWS) described the heart ravaged by weakness in the sahih hadith by stating: “The heart will be subjected to trial after trial, and there will appear a black stain on any heart that is affected, which will spread until the heart is completely black and sealed, as it were, so that it will not recognize any good deed or denounce any evil, except whatever suits its own desires.” (Reported by ...

A Muslim's Love for Allah

By: Admin (+2347082120351) Why Love for Allah is Part of the Muslim Faith? When we love Allah, that love draws us closer to Him and helps us build a strong relationship that can help us in  this life and in hereafter . As Muslims, our faith requires that our  love for Allah  and his prophet supersedes any other type of love for any other object or creation. Many scholars agree on the basis of sound ahadith that Allah creates a person (and his heart) in such a way that he has the natural inclination to love Allah. However, as a person’s heart gets corrupted by doubts, desires and other temptations, that love has to be rekindled through faith and knowledge. What Does it Mean to Love Allah? Love of Allah requires us to love what Allah loves and to dislike what displeases Him and to further demonstrate that love by following the Quran and the Sunnah. This should be a reminder for those of us who merely provide lip service about their love for Allah and His messenger rather th...
